"Oh!" Surprised, Sylla glanced at R'kah before kneeling and giving the Scarlet another piece of meat, trying to distract it from its futile– she hoped– attempt to climb her leg. Just-hatched or not, his little claws were sharp! She quickly shifted her position to gently lift the fire-lizard into her lap. The warm, bright red creature was being diverted by a third hunk of food to ensure he wouldn't struggle. Would he have, otherwise? The girl wasn't certain, though she didn't think so. He seemed pretty happy where he was, snatching and gobbling meat as fast as she could give it to him. The flit had partially sprawled across one leg, his tail and hind legs stretched out while his upper half remained upright– all the better for gulping down each scrap of food as soon as Sylla brought it within reach of his outstretched neck.
As he filled he gradually tired, his eating pace slowing. Sylla took advantage of these moments to stroke the Scarlet's soft crimson hide. "He looks so delicate," she mused, her gaze darting up to R'kah as she flashed him a quick, bemused smile. "Such tiny wings and claws." One finger slipped under his nearer forearm, and the miniscule talons in question curled loosely around her flesh. Her other hand moved to caress one rapidly drying wing, at least until he cheeped at her, snapping playfully at her hand as he insisted on receiving more food.
~May I?~ Having sensed the Impression, Bitrath had returned her full attention to Hers, and now arched her head to peer over Sylla's shoulder at the sleepy little creature. ~He's bright.~ The lavender observed. ~Almost not quite red, like I'm not quite purple.~ She commented, considering the Scarlet with interest. Sylla grinned. If Bitrath liked him, she couldn't be feeling threatened by his presence– which was good. Very good. She wanted to keep this little guy. Speaking of which, he needed a name. Her head tilted slightly as she regarded the Scarlet, fingers trailing lightly down his bulging sides. "Kotori," she announced quietly, doubting that all who had gathered to try to procure their own flit would particularly care what one young Purplerider– which she technically couldn't be referred to as, not yet– had decided to call her new flit.

C’ero cocked a brow at V’rel, feeling that the other rider’s hostility was entirely misplaced. He had only been curious, for crying out loud. It wasn’t as though he was asking for in depth secrets that he muttered to his pillow. So touchy… Now he could understand even more why Sephiroth didn’t like him, but that still didn’t give him a reason to be snippy. “That’s fine,” He replied, simultaneously crossing his arms over his chest. “I was only curious, that’s all.” He added. By Faranth, that man really needed an attitude adjustment and soon before someone beat him to a bloody pulp. It was bound to happen sooner or later and he hated patching people up after duels. It wasn’t much fun to have to tell their families that one had died and the other survived or something along those lines. It only caused a whole mess of trouble that he didn’t want to deal with.
Noting Sephiroth’s flicking tail out of the corner of his eye, C’ero sighed. /Will you stop staring at Amath like that? It makes you look desperate and makes me want to throw up./ He told the Onyx tiredly. For a while now he had taken to staring at the Queen all of a sudden despite his knowledge of his rider’s orientation. Sephiroth knew that His preferred men over women, but that wasn’t stopping the Onyx. /If you say so, Mine./ Sephiroth replied devilishly, but made no indication that he was going to stop starting. Fine, if he wanted to play that way…
He hadn’t been paying much attention until now, but the flitters had gained more of his attention as the first few had Impressed and more had hatched. He had no time to consider the Purple as she crawled to Alyana, driven there by her overly enthusiastic Diamond sister. The poor thing seemed deflated at the moment by such an act of rejection and, by the looks of it, no one else seemed interested in trying to Impress her… right this second…
Smiling softly, C’ero crouched in the sand and pulled out a generous chunk of meat, which he offered to the Diamond. He gave a shrill whistle to hopefully catch her attention. It may not have caught her attention right away, but it did manage to tear Sephiroth’s gaze away from Amath to look at the prospective nuisance His was trying to lure. Oh Faranth, not a Diamond, ANYTHING but a Diamond…

Knowing that the chance of having another week to herself was slim, Lamia had began to frequent the many beaches along Southern's coastline. So, it was no suprise that she was there once again splashing in the waves with Rilaveth watching from the shore. "Ril, come on in! I know you'll like the ocean and it won't hurt you." She called through their bond. For all the time she had spent here, her Silver dragonet had never joined her and Lamia half wondered if Rilaveth was scared of the water. ~I'd rather not Mine, for the water doesn't look nice. It looks...wet.~ Came the reply as the Queen came forward to dip a foot in the water. Quickly, she backed away, eyes whirling. ~No, I will stay here Mine, for I do not think I like the ocean.~
Lamia laughed, running the the beach to hug her Bonded. "It's alright love. Here, let me get dried off and we'll head back to the weyr, alright?" Rilaveth nodded, then turned in the direction of the nearby weyr. ~You might want to hurry, Mine. Kaloath says a fire lizard clutch is going to hatch.~ She said suddenly, turning back to look at Lamia. ~Will will go, yes?~ Lamia was suprised by her Bonded's willingness for her to go to the flitter sands, but was also a bit grateful that Ril wouldn't hold a grudge against her for doing so. One more quick hug was given before the pair raced back to Vyrzen to get soime meat-and a dry change of clothes.
After a quick stop at the weyr, Lamia and Rilaveth followed the small group of people heading for where the clutch was supposedly located.
[ooc; Since I just spent the day hooked up to an IV in the Er, I'm really in no shape to finish this now. I will later, however. But for the time being, we'll just say Lamia and Ril are already at the sands. Sorry guys.]

Kisana stared at the Copper as it hissed at the Candidates. Lilleth seemed slightly frightened by this hateful, hungry flitter, but she watched it intently too. The Copper jumped into the air with a hiss, landing with a thud at Kisa's feet. It creeled viciously at her, demanding food, flashing images of her bucket of meat, along with bursts of angry hunger. Kisa smiled at her, grabbing a large chunk of meat and throwing it to the little Copper dragonet. She jumped up and snapped the meat out of the air, then sat back down and demanded more food. Kisa obliged, throwing piece after piece of raw meat to the dragonet. The Copper began to curl up at her feet, hissing at everyone except Hers.
"I'll name her Lillana, after Lilleth and I. Little Copper Lillana, welcome to our family!" Kisana told Lillana, stroking her head happily. The dragonet hissed halfheartedly, sending wavering images of more meat. Kisa laughed and dropped a small piece in between her head and her front legs, watching with jovial laughter as Lillana grabbed the meat with her already-sharp teeth.
"Now, I want you to sleep there, Lillana. I'm looking at the other flitters." She told Lillana as she watched the others who were already Hatched Impress. An Aqua and a Diamond both hatched, but Kisana had no interest in either of these fire-lizards.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
R'kah saw Sylla Impress the little Scarlet - she named him Kotori. The jade had gone towards another dragonrider, Celestia the Weyrwoman. He glared at her angrily for taking his flitter. He wanted that Jade! Suddenly, he realized that Sylla was talking to him about the fire-lizards. "Such tiny wings and claws," she said to him. He nodded, bemused. Why didn't he have one of those darlings? He did so want one, and Gyranoth did too. He creeled quietly at the Impression of the Jade to another. We have to be here even longer? Really, there are so many people and dragons! And now those little flitters. I just want to find yours and get back to our Weyr! Gyranoth told her anxiously, eyes whirling uncomfortably. R'kah laughed lightly and pointed to the newly hatched eggs.
One was an Aqua, poking around its shells as if to eat them. -It looks like you, Gyra.- But I am your only Gyranoth, right? You aren't going to get rid of YourGyranoth? He reassured his dragon that no, he was not trying to replace him, that he loved him very much, and to be quiet so the Aqua might come to them. He held a piece of meat out to the Aqua enticingly near the shards of shells. That little Aqua couldn't eat its own shards!
V'rel shifted a bit uncomfortably, aware that Celestia had been partially watching him. He didn't really like being watched, not too much of a surprise there, but even so it was the Senior Weyrwoman. She always made him a bit nervous, and it probably wasn't because he liked her or anything... or if it was, V'rel couldn't tell. He never really had much of a sex drive, prefering his work over females, or even males. He never really had a preference in either, as he didn't really like people. Kaloath on the other hand, was interested in females, though not to th extent of Sephiroth. He was rather shy around the female dragons, Silver or not, so he tried to avoid looking directly at Amath... but he couldn't help it. She was so pretty! V'rel frowned at his dragon's thoughts, but managed to ignore them. He REALLY didn't need to be thinking that way, especially not with C'ero right there. V'rel might start blushing, and he didn't know how well that would go over with C'ero.
V'rel was pretty much a hateful person in general, but still, this Onyxrider pissed him off. Without Sephiroth, though, V'rel probably would hate him a lot less. Still, he disliked the rider anyway. "Of course you were," he said suspiciously, he still didn't trust C'ero's intentions, especially not with Sephiroth. Mine, don't be so paranoid, Kaloath attempted to comfort his rider, looking down at him. V'rel had relaxed quite a bit, and he wasn't as stiff and proper as he had been when Celestia first came in, though he was still wary. Looking at the fire-lizards for the first time since he found them, V'rel had to resist a snort of disgust. He sure did hate the little beasts, and now C'ero was going to try and Impress one. He wasn't sure why, especially not to that hyper little Diamond. That beast had even managed to scare away another one of those flitters. The Purple had Impressed to some girl that V'rel didn't know or care about, which applied to most of the Weyr. For a moment, Kaloath almost felt sorry for Sephiroth. His Rider was trying to Impress a rather energetic Rider, and Kaloath could see how that would annoy Sephiroth. Kaloath was also a little jealous of him, he wished that his Mine was interested in Fire-Lizards. He really liked fire-lizards... Stop thinking about them, I'm not Impressing one, V'rel snapped, annoyed at his dragon subconsciously trying to convince V'rel to Impress a fire-lizard, I already told you what I was going to do to one, and I meant it, he mentally glared at the dragon. Kaloath rumbled in amusement. I just said it would be nice, Mine, but sensing that the topic was closed, Kaloath didn't bother to think about the fire-lizards anymore. Instead, he opted for looking over the Weyrlings and their dragonets, wonder what kind of Riders they would make. Perhaps even some of them would be in their Wing one day! ~~~ The fire-lizards were active, not at all distracted by the dragons or the conversations around them. All they really cared about was food. The Diamond looked around energetically, but she couldn't find any food. This caused her to sulk around a bit, but her mood immediately snapped as soon as she smelled something yummy. She ran in the direction of C'ero at as fast as her little legs could carry her, her wings flopping around awkwardly as she ran. They were a bit small, but the Diamond herself was small enough herself, so it didn't make much of a difference. Her tail was also noticably short, but she still managed to balance herself as she ran headfirst for C'ero. Another egg cracked open, this time revealing a Jade, who looked around and blinked. He yawned and looked at his shell, it looked really comfortable and he was sooo tired.... He sleepily wandered around the Sands, colliding into his Aqua clutchbrother who still had his head in the sand. The Aqua squealed and tumbled headfirst across the Sands into R'kah, or rather, R'kah's dragon. The Jade flopped where he was, too tired to lift a wing. Why was he sooo tired? He was also rather hungry... but he was just too sleepy to move! There were also other people around, and he wasn't sure where he wanted to go. He was just too tired to get up and find some food. He wrapped his tail around an egg, curling up to sleep. The egg that the Jade had decided was his pillow began to shake, scaring the Jade silly, and he ran towards Talitha. Nothing like your pillow starting to shake to wake up a fire-lizard! Realizing his hunger, he looked up at Talitha with a pitiful look, waiting for food before he fell asleep again. The pillow-egg cracked open, revealing a bit of a disgruntled looking Onyx. He climbed out of his egg, finding the people around him not interesting or worth him at all. He was hungry, though, but they were going to have to come to him. He was too good to actually go get his OWN food, who did they think he was? He ruffled his wings indignantly, sitting down on the Sands and looking at the people around him as if to say, "Well?" Two eggs cracked and split open, smashing into each other in the progress. However, the two hatchlings were thrown from their eggs, each in seperate directions. A Purple and a Diamond were sprawled out on the Sands, both looking rather dazed. The Purple sat up, shaking herself, though she didn't quite get all the egg goop off of her. She looked around and flopped down again, starting to creel, sounding like a child crying for it's parents. The Diamond just sat there, flopping around, as though she was trying to see how much her body could flop before she had to get food. She looked like a fish, and it was a bit of a funny sight to see. Eventually she lifted her head and looked out at the people, tilting her head curiously.
Celestia still sat on the sands, rather glad the fire-lizard sands were not nearly as burning hot as the Hatching Sands. Her clothing was light, a light skirt that reached just past her knees, and a sleeveless top, which was normal attire for a day spent at the Weyr. Sure, it wasn't always practical, if she got a call and had to ride Amath somewhere, but when you spent all your time in the intense heat of Southern, it was just about all you could stand to wear. She tucked her skirt around her, careful not to disturb Jasper, as he had just gone to sleep. It really was uncomfortable to sit on the sands like this, but she wanted to stick around and watch the rest of the hatching, so she would remember who had what rank of flit. It was always useful to know these things before their owners trained them to deliver messages.
Certainly, people would have to get used to seeing Jasper around. He would probably be with her, or delivering messages for her, at all times. So the Weyr would see plenty of her little flit. And, it was also just fun to watch the Hatching and see what flit chose what person. Smiling, she continued to scratch Jasper as he slept on her lap, while watching as more flits hatched, and a few more Impressed. Hmm, it certainly would be interesting to see what Sh'ven Impressed. Laughing to herself at this thought, she spoke to Amath as she glanced around and noticed that both Onyx's kept glancing to the Silver.
-My dear, both Sephiroth and Kaloath keep looking at you. They seem rather taken with you. - The Senior Weyrwoman could not help but comment, back to watching the flit hatching. Without actually asking her Silver, she wondered to herself if the Queen might be getting ready to rise. The males did seem to be watching her... Shaking the thoughts off, she turned her attention back to the flit hatching as Amath simply rumbled in amusement and pointedly ignored the Onyx's, seemingly just enjoying taunting them by showing no interest.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sh'ven had settled to the sands also now, kneeling. He was rather glad he was male, and was wearing his normal light trousers and sleeveless shirt. He had noticed how Cele was fidgeting minimally on the sands, clearly bothered by sitting in the sand in a skirt. Trying not to laugh, he watched the next little flurry of flits hatch. As the Onyx sat regally on the sand, he grinned, noting how it was watching the group of people as if waiting for them to offer it all the food they had. Ha, a typical Onyx, with that kind of attitude.
Amused with the Onyx, he offered a bit of meat, keeping an eye on the other Hatchlings as well, in case one of them came for his offered meat. He really did not care what colour flit he got, so long as it was intelligent enough to deliver a message every now and then, and not too annoying or Minth would eat it. However, that might be fun to watch. But flits were rather cute, much as he would never voice this thought aloud. So, whatever chose him was fine.
The Scarlet rumbled amusement at the thought that he might eat a flit if it annoyed him. -You are almost right Mine. If I was annoyed with it I might want to eat it, but I never would. For the females seem to think those things are cute, and I fear what they would do if I were to eat one.- The dragon rumbled across their mental link, clearly very amused by this. Sh'ven could not help falling into silent laughter himself at this. It was true, and Minth was such a flirt -And of course, he had learned from the best of them all, Sh'ven added to himself with a grin- that he would do anything to try and impress the females, as well as tried to avoid upsetting them at all times. Although most of the females, both human and dragon, were almost always annoyed with the pair anyway, so it did not make much of a difference.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
V'lon sighed as the cute little Aqua tumbled into R'kah's dragon, and shifted a little where he crouched on the sands, slightly uncomfortable. Certainly it was hotter here on the sands, though not as bad as it would be on the Hatching Sands, but warmer then it might be oceanside. He shrugged off the uncomfortable feeling, looking over the other Flits now. Seeing none in particular that he felt a pull towards, he simply dangled the meat he held somewhere that all the flits could see it and it was still within reach, waiting to see if any might come to him.
He allowed himself a quick glance around at the other people there, noticing that more had come since he had arrived, and everyone seemed to be crowding close together in an attempt to draw a flit to them. This was rather more forward than a normal Hatching, for you had to tempt a flit to you. The newly hatched dragons just somehow knew who was best for them before they hatched. He found that rather easier, as well as safer for those not as violent as some. He had no doubt that a few here would put up a good fight to have the flit that caught their eye. He really wanted a flit, but if it came to that, he could do without it. There was no NEED, it would simply be useful.
Leith gave a mental sigh, from his place slightly back from the crowd of people. He had moved further away as more people had come, now ending up back with the larger dragons that had to stay out of the way. V'lon could tell from the tension running off the young dragon that if it came to something like that, the Jade would jump into the crowd and get His out before any harm came to the boy. V'lon, in Leith's mind, was sometimes too kind, or rather all the time. His needed to toughen up and protect himself! Really, what would V'lon do without him, the dragon wondered, listening to the boy's thoughts as he tried to figure out if anyone seemed ready to forcibly take the flit they wanted. Always so quiet and kind, and far too giving, His was.
Leith settled himself to the sands, all his muscles tensed... Even if none of the other dragons seemed to be worried Their would begin a fight, Leith preferred to be ready. His had a tended to end up in some sort of situation dangerous to his health all the time without even speaking to anyone. V'lon, hearing these thoughts, which had already become a normal thing with Leith, sighed. He blocked the dragon, only leaving a trickle of emotions pass through their link, finding it hard to concentrate of the hatching when his Bonded was thinking stuff like that.
~Perhaps,~ Creeth conceded to Kivath, approving of her attempt at decorum. It was really too much to hope the lesser colors could conceive of such an idea– look at Aqua Gyranoth, he was practically hiding behind His! Ah well. The Onyx glanced up at the humans, then away, affecting that their conversation didn't really concern him, though at Alyana's words praising his color he couldn't help but inflate a little and adopt a more impressive stance. The gesture would be more effective once he was as large as Kaloath or Sephiroth, he supposed, though his current hatchling charm was not to be overlooked.
Sh'ralik nodded, taking in Alyana's advice about the Weyrling Master and adding it to the little he already knew about the Jaderider. He opened his mouth to reply when the Purple flit made a beeline for the girl. The boy took a quick step backward, giving the trio room as Alyana Impressed and lifted the little creature, Kivath abandoning her clutchbrother in favor of Hers and their newest addition. A tiny smile teased the edges of his lips as he picked up Creeth's quiet grumbles at the Copper's action. Leaving the two to fawn over Yoko, he looked back at the hatching nest, the sand around the clutch now sprinkled with broken, discarded bits of shell.
Sh'ralik realized he was being a little too overly-critical in his judgement of the hatchling flits. He knew it, but he couldn't stop what he was doing. The Aqua R'kah had just Impressed– his antics were amusing, but one had to wonder how smart a flitter that tried to eat its own shell was. That Onyx– he certainly couldn't question its intelligence, but all the same he didn't think he, or Creeth, would want to deal with a self-important little king-flit. He already had a self-important, not-so-little king dragon to care for, not that he was complaining. Besides, a domineering creature like that one would probably feel the need to dig his claws into his owner's shoulders or nip at every opportunity to get food or attention. But back to the clutch V'rel had found. A Purple and a Diamond hatched together, though 'hatched' was too... calm a word to describe how they both had exploded out of their eggs. The Purple was wailing, goop still clinging to its sides and eerily reminiscent of Sylla's lavender-Purple, Bitrath. If he didn't think he should try to lure the Onyx to him because of its haughty nature, he definitely didn't want this emotional, vocal little creature. Which brought him to the Diamond. She was flailing about as if caught in the throes of some draconic seizure. Or something.
~Being a little too judgemental here, aren't we Sh'ralikMine?~ His critical thoughts, having caught Creeth's attention, now sent a droll sort of smug satisfaction through the Onyx. ~I did say a fire-lizard might not be the best of ideas.~ Blue-whirling eyes considered his Bonded. 'Yes, the youth replied, and I said it was. We're here, aren't we? Besides, only about half the clutch has hatched, there'll be plenty more to choose from.' Plenty more, yes, but any he could bring himself to go after? Almost abnormally pale eyes drifted downward to stare at the patterns of true-white, threadlike scars adorning his forearms; trios of slashes and crosshatchings, embroidery gone wrong. A beat or two passed, then he sighed and fixed his gaze on the sand-warmed clutch of wobbling eggs. Flitters did not make him nervous. Why would he be here if they did?
~You really need to ask?~ Creeth interposed, amusement coloring his voice. Sh'ralik sent his dragon a mental grumble and half-heartedly threatened to block him out. He was going to Impress a fire-lizard, he was just... waiting for the right one. A decent Copper, perhaps, or a nice Scarlet– like the one Sylla had grabbed right at the start. Yes. The next one he saw, he'd go for. AS long as it wasn't too hyperactive, or too sluggish– though some degree of calm laziness might be appreciated– and certainly as long as it could tell the difference between what was edible versus what was not. ~If I'd been that selective I might have gone between instead of finding you, Mine.~ Creeth told him in a tone somewhere between incredulous disbelief and dry humor. Sh'ralik responded with gratitude for the dragon's favorable selection, but added that a flit was hardly like a canine, or even some tunic he bought at a Gathering. He couldn't give it away or get rid of it if he found he didn't like it. Thus, he had to be careful. Uneasiness with the little flitters had nothing to do with it. Right, of course. Now if only he could convince Creeth of that point....
The little Aqua dug its head into the sand, before another egg hatched. It revealed a sleepy little Jade, that wandered around, dazed, before running into the Aqua flitt. The Aqua squealed loudly and rolled across the sands. It bumped into Gyranoth and landed in much the same way Gyra had when he had Hatched. R'kah giggled, and Gyra's eyes whirled with intense happiness. R'kah gave the meat to his new fire-lizard, who gobbled it up and demanded more instantly. He complied, as Gyra sniffed his new companion eagerly. The flitt climbed up Gyranoth's head and across his neck before coming to rest on the dragon's shoulders for a nap.
"I'll name you Shiro. Do you like that name, little flitter?" R'kah murmured as he ran his fingers gently across the back of the flit. Gyranoth hummed happily, becoming more confident - though he still stood behind his Rider to avoid all the eyes. ~I like little Shiro. He's sleeping on my back, which feels very nice to Gyranoth.~ Gyra told R'kah, who nodded. R'kah began to be clutched by panic - people were watching him! Why were people always watching him here?! His eyes watered up with pitiful tears. He stifled them, as he had learned to do, and sat beside Gyra sadly. More flitters were hatching, including a pitifully cute Purple. It matched his current mood - he held out meat to it with despairing hope.
Lillana fell asleep on the Sands, cozy in the warmth radiating up from the ground. Lilleth hummed happily and curled herself around the Copper flitt, allowing her tailtip to lay on the tiny head. Kisa stared at the hatching eggs intently. Many dragonets were hatching, but none seemed ... right for Kisa. So, she waited. Her chest ached severely, the bandages wrapped tightly around her ribs. Curses rang through her thoughts to the Silver Rilaveth. Sh'ven, the Wingleader of Scarlet Minth, was tempting an Onyx. Kisa walked over to him with her bucket of meat and smiled uncomfortably.
"Trying for a firelizard, Weyrleader?" She asked him - for he was acting as a Weyrleader now. Her eyes glimmered happily, and she shook out her limbs to relax herself. This caused a shooting pain to run through her chest, and she winced slightly. She wasn't in the mood to seem weak in front of the 'Weyrleader', so she contained it. Kisa gestured to Lillana, dozing happily in the crook of Lilleth's limbs. "Do you like her? She's small, but she seems sweet." Hoping for a response, she watched him as intently as she watched the flitts. He might be kind, he might hate her - Kisa had never had contact with their acting leader.
Noting Sephiroth’s apparent distaste for his newly Impressed Diamond flitt, C’ero made a mental note to make it a priority to try and Impress another one as soon as he could. However, for the time being, he would focus on the little creature that had careened head first into his lap, mouth open as she begged for more meat. Small as she was, she was determined to stuff herself silly, but hers had to feed her first before that happned. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity (Which was only a few seconds in reality.), there was food in her mouth. She let out a muffled chirp as she swallowed, mouth open moments later as she creeled for more. Hurry, mine, she seemed to say, hurry and stuff me full of meat and food and all sorts of yummy things!
/I hope you know that you just reached your limit./ Sephiroth noted in disgust, not at all put off with Amath ignoring him. She was teasing him and he would wait patiently. It was either him or that pathetic oaf Kaloath, so her options were limited unless she planned on waiting forever for another Onyx… /No, Mine, you are NOT Impressing another!/ The thought alone seemed to pull the Onyx from his thoughts of Weyr domination and back to the pending disaster at hand. One flitter was enough, especially a Diamond, but he would stand for no more!
/It’s not your choice, love./ C’ero replied calmly as he continued to shove food down the still-nameless Diamond’s gullet, waiting for her to either close her mouth and concede to the limits of her stomach or explode. While the latter could possibly be amusing to watch, he certainly hoped that she would be full long before then. Thankfully, she conceded a few minuets later, preferring to drift off to sleep in his lap instead of bursting at the seams. With her asleep, C’ero could finally focus on naming her, though he really wasn’t inclined to ask Sephiroth’s opinion (It was definitely not a name for a flitter.) on the matter. When nothing came, he sighed and stood up. He was getting tired of listening to the hot air that spilled out of V’rel’s mouth and had finally decided that he’d prefer more desirable company. Well, first thing was first…
Settling down next to Celestia, he said, “I’m sorry about Sephiroth’s staring. He’s just trying to annoy me. He’s really not too keen on the whole flitter idea.” He snorted, absently running a finger along… crud. He still had to name her. It came to him all of a sudden, so randomly he couldn’t help but laugh. “Well, how about Dratini, hmm?” He asked the sleeping Diamond who did nothing more but snort in her sleep, flicking her short tail. Silly little thing…
V'rel merely watched as C'ero pretty much ditched him, his one visible eye still narrowed in it's usual expression. However, it did look a little forced, as V'rel was trying to stop himself from beating the other man into a bloody pulp. Of course, not like he could get very far without Kaloath or even one of the other riders around him infering, so he didn't bother. But the nerve of that man! To ditch him like that... of course, V'rel managed to convince himself that he was glad. Who wanted to be around some arrogant prick? Certainly not V'rel.
The even more annoying thing was that C'ero actually had the nerve to go and sit with the Weyrwoman of all people. He felt his eye twitch, but leaned against Kaloath and closed his eyes. He'd definitely had enough of these people. In fact, if V'rel hadn't been stubborn, he might have shed a few tears at being "ditched", but he didn't. Instead, he kept his rageful thoughts within himself, convincing himself that he didn't care. Nope, not at all. Mine.... Please calm down, Kaloath said soothingly, trying to calm his rider's rather complicated thoughts. There are others around, you can't let your rage get the better of you. Calm down, mine, Kaloath was getting a bit worried, he might have to take some drastic measures if V'rel were to get angrier at this attempt to calm him down. Luckily for Kaloath, V'rel simply sighed, allowing a weak half-smile across his face. I'm fine, Kalaoth, he said simply, his eyes still shut. He was just going to ignore everyone now. They weren't worth the trouble, they really weren't. Who needed other people anyway? He had Kaloath. Kaloath didn't care much that Sephiroth's rider was socializing with Amath's, as he was pretty much too, well, "shy" to talk to her directly anyway, and he knew that V'rel would never go over and talk to someone out of his own free will. Stop worrying, Kaloath. If Amath rises, then she rises, and whoever catches her catches her. We can worry about that when the time comes, V'rel was acting unusually calm for someone who had just been extremely angry only a second ago, and he still had that half-content smile on his face, though barely. It made Kaloath worry a bit, but all that really mattered at the moment was that V'rel wasn't about to explode. Unusually calm beat explosive anger any day. ~~~~~ Now, let's step away from V'rel's angst and check back with our lovely fire-lizards. The Purple immediately stopped her squealing, looking around, waving her darkly colored purple tail around herself, as if finding some sort of fascination with it. However, she did need food, now that she was done whining for help. She ran across the sands to R'kah, and she daintily took the meat from his hands, being as careful as possible not to hurt him. She looked up at him with her whirling eyes, she really needed someone to cuddle with right now. With the Purple's Impression, the Onyx had finally decided that he wanted some food, after his prancing around. His hide was a rather wispy gray rather than the straight Onyx, with darker wings. He made his way to Sh'ven carefully, making sure he looked as dignified as possible, unlike his clutchsiblings. They were so clumsy, tripping and tumbling across the Sands, he was far better than them in that regard. In fact, he was far better than them in ANY regard. While the Onyx had Impressed to Sh'ven, the Queen egg shook and tumbled, rolling from where it sat into another egg, and then into another, sort of like a pinball machine. The eggs that the Queen egg hit merely cracked, but didn't even tumble over like the previous eggs that had collided with each other. The Queen egg itself stopped in front of it's sibling's eggs, and split evenly in half. A Silver twirled out of the egg, daintily lifting one wing and then the other as if to say "tadah!" She seemed to be a bit of a... performer, if you will. The Diamond crawled across the Sands with her nose half buried, making a trail towards the human she had chosen to go to. She looked up at Lamia, and dug in the sand some more, getting her beautiful, bright diamond hide dirty. She then realized that she was hungry, though, and looked up at Lamia with her very cute face. The eggs that the Queen egg had hit were starting to come apart in shards, the first little flitter to tumble from his egg was an Aqua. He looked around with curiosity, his eyes revealing an intelligence that rivaled the Kings. He removed the shards from his hide carefully, looking out at the fire-lizard prospects carefully, as if trying to decide which one had more meat to feed him. The next egg to hatch revealed a Scarlet, who simply sulked out of his egg, angry that the Silver had forced his egg open before he was READY to come out. He looked at the flitter prospects with contempt, and ruffled his wings. He wanted food, and he was going to GET food, one way or another, even if he had to eat that sharding Silver, who looked like she was waiting for an applause. Another egg broke open in shards, and this revealed an Aqua. He looked down at his eggshells, startled, and took off into the sky. The little Aqua tumbled through the sky with his new wings, before he finally blinked between. He had gone wild though, as fire-lizards often do, instead of Impressing to the humans. Oh well, there were always a few that decided to leave. Finally, the last egg the Silver had hit almost turned to powder, revealing a very cute looking Copper. Her body was a bit pudgier than normal, giving her the look of an adorable puppy. Her personality was just as sweet, and she looked out at the people around her pleadingly. She was really, really hungry! Could someone get her some food, please?
Little Shiro woke up, his eyelids fluttering slowly across his faceted eyes. R'kah turned his head away from the flitters to watch the Aqua, his eyes about to overflow. He ran his hand first over Gyra's neck, then across Shiro's back. They looked so cute together, the two Aqua dragonkin. He hoped that the three of them would be together - the three shy guys, standing strong. R'kah could teach Shiro some basic words - who knew, maybe he would be brighter than he first seemed. Gyra hummed happily still, seeing Shiro flap down from his back gently to land on the ground. R'kah gave him another piece of meat, then fed Gyranoth several pieces - he was hungry. Suddenly, Shiro began walking quickly towards the little Purple. Its dark tail waved, a flag of hungry joy, as it - no, she, he corrected himself - ran towards R'kah to accept his gift of meat.
R'kah smiled broadly, his face sore from all the smiling he had been doing lately. The Purple grabbed the meat daintily and gnawed on it, looking up after a moment with spinning eyes. She looked like she needed a cuddle - Shiro began running his head over her side, and Gyra nuzzled her lovingly. Obviously, she had been accepted into their little family. R'kah watched her for a moment, then decided on a name - "Suunra." He announced to everyone present, stroking his new flit happily. The emotions in him welled over, and he began to cry quietly. Shiro and Suunra crawled up onto his chest. Suunra creeled for food, and R'kah fed her chunk after chunk of meat. ~We are complete now, I think, Mine. Shiro and Suunra, Gyra and R'kah. A family.~ Gyra told him, his mindvoice sounding thick with tears. R'kah laughed a tearful laugh as the two firelizards curled themselves around each other and slept on his lap. Gyra followed their example and lay down on the warm Sands. He lay his head on R'kah's leg and dozed, completely relaxed.
Suddenly, an Aqua hatched. Its eyes were intelligent and bright. His egg had been hatched by a Queen egg rolling around. He almost held out meat for the little Aqua, but he already had Shiro and Gyra - another Aqua would just be too much confusion. The little Queen performer also entranced him for a moment, but he would wait for a perfect flitter to add, if he so desired. An angry Scarlet hatched, but R'kah didn't want such a volatile individual in his flock. Then, another Aqua hatched out! It stared at its eggshells, then jumped into the air and blinked between. R'kah stared after it with fear, then screamed. He stood up, awaking his sleeping crowd. The two flitts flew up to try and find their clutchmate, but he was gone. Gyra creeled. R'kah's eyes flowed with tears at the loss of a promising life. He could have accepted that little Aqua, if its life would have been saved by it! Tearing his eyes from the site of the tragedy, R'kah and his flock watched the hatching eggs. A pudgy little Copper had hatched, looking for all the world like a little baby canine. He cooed softly at it, handing meat to Shi and Suu. /Hold. Do not eat!/ He told them firmly. The flitters held the chunks of meat out, hovering slightly above the ground with the meat in their front feet. Maybe this girl would fully finish out his little crew - his family.
Talitha's eyes shown when a jade flitter came her way, didn't really matter that he was male, he was pretty. /Humph./ Seluth was indignant. /Come on Sel, he's going to be useful, but he is going to need training, like we are going to need training./ /Humph. I doubt that he will be any use at all./ /One month at least, Sel, that way we can see if he improves, and probably we will be improving as well./ Tal's eyes turned from Tael, and went to Sel's. /It would be best if you were more accepting Seluth./ Tal reprimanded her. /Humph./
Tal shook her head at Sel's hard headed-ness, I hope she'll get over this. Tal then turned her attention to her new flitter and offered him some meat which he took then fell asleep, she carefully picked him up and held him next to her. Boy, is he heavy, but as he grows up my arms should get stronger as he gets even heavier. Tal settled in, to watch and wait for awhile. She glanced up and noticed that Sel's eyes were not very happy. /Seluth if you are going to be angry, we will have to leave and I do not want to leave, but here-/ and at this Tal put Tael on Sel's back. Tael woke up a little then crooned and went back to sleep. Tal had noticed that Sel had stiffed then relaxed at Tael's croon. Tal tactfully remained silent. /I guess he's not so bad..../ Tal grinned, /Well maybe I can get too watch and see what has happened./ Tal looked at Sel pointedly, and Sel huffed and looked away. Tal settled against Sel's side for an interesting show, well she hoped it was going to be interesting.
Tal watched the interactions between the others but had no want to go interact with them, flitters were more interesting than people sometimes. Her eyes widened as she watched some of the interactions, why approach the weyrleader, that would be scary to do, though...Tal never did well with some people of authority. Tal moved a little as Sel settle for a very short nap, short because Tal could see that most of the flitters had impressed, except for those on the sand and the aqua. Thought about another one, but decided that she shouldn't stretch her luck, it was chance that Sel even accepted the Jade.
Tal had no clue what too do with the rest of the meat she must of been crazy to bring this much. She thought of giving it to someone but wasn't sure who needed it or wanted it. So, maybe she could save it for when Tael woke up, soon she hoped, it might stink if she kept it longer. Wait, what about the light colored Aqua or the cute tiny Onyx. Tal leaned forward eagerly, stretching out toward the newly hatched flitters. She was hoping that Sel would be acceptable to one more, though one more was all she really wanted. /What do you think of the Onyx or Aqua, Sel?/ Tal questioned. /Well, maybe the tiny one, Mine, or the diamond? Like your Seluth?/ Tal laughed, /Okay, Sel, we'll go for either the Onyx or the Diamond./
It was all still at one moment, like life was holding its breath in some grand contest. Its lungs beginning to grow weaker and weaker until at last the first breath was let loose by means of the smallest fissure on the tiny eggs, testing to see if said lungs were still in proper working order. And then, suddenly, a large sigh came from all around with the first hatching of the flitt. That first tentative sigh was the signal of everything being clear, and several other little fire lizards followed after their sibling in hatching and Impressing. Despite Sorcha’s reluctance to even be attempting to impress one of the varmints (as she found suitable enough to call them), she did have to note the fact that some of them were a bit… adorable? But alas, it was just a note of them… You cannot actually believe that the eighteen turn old weyrling would admit to these… Annoyances as being cute. Oh shards no, that information would only be found stored away in that labyrinth of a mind.
They were like miniature dragons, if you will… A child’s toy, really. As they preened and creeled for food, searching for any person that might be compassionate enough to satiate their desire for meat. The colors were varied, each one completing some odd rainbow that was native to Vyrzen Weyr alone. Dark hair was pushed behind Sorcha’s ear, the young woman agitated with herself for not placing it in a braid earlier that morning. Investigative eyes kept a careful watch on the mini-replicas of dragons, Sorcha finding the personalities very distinct among each individual fire-lizard. Perhaps she could hold out through the entire hatching and manage not to Impress. That might possibly work, if she avoided actually getting her meat pile near any of the starving flitts…
That train of thought was cut short while Dellanth felt it necessary to pressure her Bonded, ~ SorchaMine, are you going to even try?~ The dragoness’ many-faceted eyes whirled a shade of green, evaluating Sorcha before continuing on, ~You’re coming here would be pointless… You aren’t speaking to anyone, and you’re not trying to get a little one.~
-Pardon me, but it was not my idea in the first place to come down here, now was it?- Came the sharp retort while Sorcha gave a glare to the growing Copper who was flicking her tail in a slight exasperation. Any attempt to keep the menacing glare on her visage while staring at Dellanth was futile, the angered look dissipating into tender affection.
~Do not be angered with the truth, Mine.~
“I’m not angered…” Sorcha rebutted weakly, her sentence trailing off and entwining into another thought that was communicated verbally with Dellanth, “After this, we are oiling you.”
~That would be nice. A little one is not as difficult to oil as I.~ Again with the ‘subliminal’ message.
Not bothering to respond to the insistent Dellanth, Sorcha instead just grabbed a piece of the bloody meat and kept it in hand and edged closer to the general area of where the action was taking place. Not aiming for one flitt over the other, the bonded of the Copper kept the tidbits of raw meat, its juices running over her hands and making for a light-pink stream, available for any firelizard that might take an interest to it. Chasing away any last remaining thoughts of not wanting to Impress, she kept her mind clear of almost any over-powering emotion. One could tempt to say that Sorcha was in a placid state, neither attacking someone with sarcasm nor shutting herself out completely from the world. Just one would be enough to satisfy her… Just one that proved to be of some use and have at least average intellect. Alas, that was a pretty tall order for a little fire lizard.
((And there’s the long-delayed, crappy post. Now I don’t feel bad for not posting XD.))
Sh'ralik watched the hatching's proceedings with a bit of an unbalanced air... though he counted on the fire-lizards being an appropriate enough distraction that no one noticed the young Onyxrider's– unease, for lack of a better word. R'kah Impressed yet another flit– that whiney Purple no one else had tried to lure; he wished the other weyrling luck with that one. He was a little surprised Sylla hadn't offered the little creature a piece of meat– he'd half-expected her to, what with having such a similar dragon and all– but she did already have that spirited Scarlet. ~You are just going to stand there and watch them all pair off.~ Sh'ralik glanced at his Bonded, whose eyes were merrily whirling in smug delight. ~I was right, of course. This hardly upsets Creeth, nor should you be saddened, Mine. We shall have to wait until the rest have hatched and Bonded, of course– it wouldn't do for us to leave early. It won't be long now; few yet remain.~ The boy's firm rebuke that he was going to Impress a flit died an abrupt and startled death as his light gaze whipped back to the Sands.
Creeth was right: all but five or six of the eggs had hatched, and as he watched an Aqua launched himself between, choosing the jungle over any of the hopeful humans arrayed before it. Quickly he scanned the newest arrivals, noting as he did so where and to whom the previous hatchlings had gone. An Aqua that didn't look half bad, though making that one an option would surely send Creeth dashing off to the Weyrhealer demanding to know what was wrong with His. Sh'ralik snorted softly at the image that thought presented. A Scarlet, who was almost immediatetly disregarded as far too pompous. The queen had hatched, and he knew he was getting desperate– or perhaps trying to talk himself out of this– when he started to consider feeding her. Could it be Creeth was right? That none of the flitters seemed right for him because he didn't want them to be? Had he really just come here to watch?
The answer came quick and instantaneously. No. Shells and shards, no! What was he, an Aquarider– no offense to R'kah?! His was an Onyx, Creeth had come to him, no one else... besides, the aforementioned Aqua weyrling now had two fire lizards looking to him while he, Sh'ralik, hadn't even pursued one! Finally a Copper hatched, and Sh'ralik eyed it determinedly, almost daring it to appear flawed. Vaguely surprised, he found the little thing to be pudgy and cute. Yes, at last, he'd found the right one– the one he would Impress, and... and R'kah wanted her as well. He was even using his two new flits as extra incentive! Swiftly Sh'ralik snatched a scrap of meat and tossed it at the Copper.
The hastily thrown tidbit sailed right past the Copper, landing on her opposite side. Sh'ralik grimaced and grabbed another glob, aiming this one more carefully. He hardly wanted to pelt the poor creature with food, drive her straight to R'kah. This one landed scant inches away from her, on the near side. Much better. The weyrling armed himself with a third chunk, holding it loosely between his index and middle fingers in readiness.
Cele had been so occupied with her newly Impressed flit, yet again, that she failed to noticed the Onyxrider coming up beside her until he spoke. She looked up as he spoke though, eyes wide with surprise. Clearly she had been sharing thoughts with the sleepy Jade flit on her lap. Caught slightly off balance by surprise, she took a moment to gather her thoughts, as Jasper peeped at her in annoyance. Why was she no longer paying attention to him? Now trying to hold back a laugh, both at herself and the offended thoughts rolling off Jasper's mind, she attempted to reply to C'ero without losing any more composure then she already had.
"Oh, he's staring? Amath doesn't seem to mind." She glanced quickly at her Bonded, who was still pointedly ignoring the Onyx dragons while her amusement crept through their mental link. She grinned, turning back to C'ero. "No, she find that rather amusing, actually. Really, sometimes I wonder why she chose me. We are very different most of the time. But I still love her." She commented fondly, as Jasper let out another offended chirp at being forgotten. "Oh, well I'm sure Sephiroth will come to care for... Dratini did you say her name was?" She looked at the little flit C'ero had Impressed, smiling as Jasper unwillingly stretched out his neck to sniff at his clutch sister.
----------------
Sh'ven heard Kisana approach him, as he was still paying slight attention to the other people there, unlike his dear friend Cele. He caught sight of her surprised expression as C'ero spoke to her out of the corner of his eye and smirked, as he himself turned to greet the Weyrling. But suddenly the portion of meat he held was tugged from his hand, and he turned to see what Flit had come to his offering with his mouth half open and a reply already halfway spoke to the girl. "Hello-- Oh..." Was all he got out before he stopped himself, viewing the flit standing regally before him. The Onyx. Ah, and it was a wonderful colour. Not pure onyx like was normal, but a dusty grey colour.
Picking the Onyx up carefully, he cradled it close to him and began feeding it, careful it didn't bite him. This one certainly knew it was a King. He perched himself regally on Sh'ven's arm, preening every now and then as he ate. He turned back to Kisana with his mind now half occupied trying to pick a name for his new flit. Minth was watching His warily, wondering at this new addition to their mind that was somewhat overly confident and conceited.
"Yes, I was indeed trying to tempt one. Apparently I was successful too. That is a cute little Copper you have there." He added, trying to be polite. "And please, don't adress me as Weyrleader. I am only acting until Amath rises, and that seems like it will be soon. I may not claim the title." He frowned slightly, not liking being named as Weyrleader by this Weyrling. While he was the one taking care of the Weyr, along with Cele, it was far too much responsibility for him to be comfortable with. He really would be glad when Amath rose, for Minth knew better then to try and chase their Senior Queen, especially when His thought only of Cele as a sister, and it would be odd indeed to be in such a situation, for both dragon and rider.
Glancing down at the little flit again, he stared at it's dusty hide thoughtfully. A name, a name... Ah, he hated choosing names. Why couldn't flits be like dragons and have names when they hatched? He bit his lip absently, and a moment later a name came to him. Grinning down at the flit, he told the Onyx, "Well, you are now going to be known as Zorro." With a laugh. The newly dubbed Zorro gave a curious chirp, tilting his head slightly as he considered his new name before snorting approvingly and jabbing at Sh'ven's hand for another bit of meat.
