Luatyrr had been asleep on her favourite nook in the cliffs that protect the weyr for the good part of the day, but now she was starting to awake from her slumber. She was a copper dot on the grey stone, out of the way and thoroughly enjoying her sunning. The golden rays were blissfully warm on her hide; the cool breeze was just soft enough to make her croon with contentment. She mused to herself, thinking that had she been here always, she would not liked to have travelled to the place the one she called hers came from. She shivered a little as she thought on how much colder it was, despite the Igen climate being much warmer than that of Benden or Fort. She didn’t know that Hers was looking for, nor would she have cared if she did. She felt too good to be flittering around after him all day. And besides, she reasoned, waking up a little more into her own little train of thought, the black one hadn’t taken brilliantly to her as of yet, so why should she risk her tail if he got in a mood? Certainly it wasn’t her fault that he didn’t have a sense of fun. He was just a spoilsport that usually hissed at her whenever she got so much as a few feet near to him. She unfurled her wings a little and stretched, thinking again of how nice the sun felt. She DID feel good indeed.
To any observer, her hide would belie her condition, as she was positively glowing. The deeper red pigments of her stretched wings appeared to be a lot brighter, closer to rose gold than red and her lean frame was shining a bright, almost bronze colour. Not that Hers had taken much notice of her recently, so it was probably a good idea that he had decided to search down the opposite end of the beach for her. With a young dragon, the feelings of a flight - even if it was only a fire lizard flight – could potentially spell out danger. He didn’t need to become attached to anyone yet, especially not with a young king. She stretched again, although this time instead of feeling satisfied, something impinged on the feeling, just on the edge of her sense, something a little harsher, more fervent. She raised her head at this, slightly puzzled and then it came stronger, more intensely. Her faceted eyes faded through from a bright blue-green to a powerful red, laced through with deep purple. Whirling, whirling, faster and faster. She shrieked in outrage, mostly at the fact she was too stupid to realise what had been coming, and then again in defiance as she spotted some wild males hovering nearby.
Luatyrr’s eyes quickly found a considerably sized tunnel snake, emerging from a burrow that must have led to somewhere in the weyr. The fat thing looked smug, if such a thing could be said about a tunnel snake. Unfortunately for it, Luatyrr’s lust was fast taking her over, and all she saw was a quick meal. She threw herself down from her ledge in a dive that the creature had very little time to comprehend and too late the female fire lizard was upon it. The enraged female grabbed the snake by the midriff with her sharp claws and tore into it with sharp teeth, slashing its’ throat deftly and gulping the blood and meat alike with a fervour. She tossed the carcass aside mostly uneaten, but drained of its’ life force, so that only the smallest amount of crimson stained the ground underneath the corpse. The heat of the blood flowed through the copper fire lizard like life, bringing a steady supply of energy and heat to her limbs.
With a burst and this new-found energy, she swept her strong wings and propelled herself into and air current to spiral skywards, positioning herself high above the weyrbowl. She bugled her challenge, a sweet, high pitched sound, to any male who would dare chase her, and hah! Would they have a chase in store! She counted on her favourites to be there, well, if she could call any her favourites. She adored all the males in the weyr had had constantly flirted with the lot of them since she arrived. Her eyes now whirled a deep indigo purple colour, only shot through with red occasionally. This was her day! She bugled her challenge again, and held herself poised to evade the very first of the challengers.

Curled up on the empty bed in R'kah's Weyr, there was Shiro. His head rested on his feet in a very feline way, and the tip of his tail twitched on his nose. Something about the morning made him doze much longer than he would have - on any other day, the Aqua flitt would be fluttering around with His on the beach, or relaxing somewhere nearby. Today, though ... today was a day for sleeping. The sun was bright, just reaching onto his hide through the small window, and Shii was content to nap the day away. R'kah had left that morning, scooping up the little firelizard and laying him on the bed lovingly, with Suu in tow.
Finally, he was too rested to sleep, and flew (with a bit of a wobble) out the window and into the open air, fresh and clean. Vyrzen was perfect at this time of day for flitts to fly, eat, enjoy themselves, especially when they had nothing better to do. Hunger gnawed at his belly, and he quickly Betweened to the nearest section of beach, where he snapped up a few fish. That filled Shii up quite nicely, the little flitt seeming almost to sigh as he slowly drifted down towards the ground. The heat of the sun almost set him to sleeping, but he decided that the weather was too nice to be wasted.
And then that bugle call pierced him like a knife.
He didn't seem to recognize it at first, but after listening for another moment, he knew. There was a female ready to fly! Shii's response was jubilant, a loud howl of a bugle that rang from his tiny body. Using the sandy ground to kick off, he shot up and paused midair - no use wasting energy when he could simply look around for the source. It was a Copper, and he thought it might be Luatyrr, one of the other flitters from Vyrzen. That was better; captive flitts weren't usually as wild, or so he heard. He flashed Between and was quickly near her. Not too close, but close enough to see the purple in her eyes.
With another call, he waited for her to make the first move. The females ran the show when it came to Flights, and it wouldn't pay to dash up and spend himself now trying to make her run. She didn't seem to be in much of a waiting mood, and that was certainly good, since Shii didn't feel much like waiting either. Patience, something he normally had a great deal of, had fled from him when he first heard her bugle, and he had to cling to it with his talons to avoid shooting off like a rocket. His eyes matched hers, dark purple and red, though his were slightly more yellow: whirling fast and furious, ready for battle if need be. He would fly her.

Not all flits who lived around the Weyr were tamed, their minds spoiled to indolence by the human partners they found. A pair of eyes, wheeling slowly at first, but gathering speed, a deep amethyst in hue, turned skyward, from lith figure of a scarlet rising from repose to stretch his wings high above him, searching for the source of the mating cry. His forked tail gave a twitch, and finally he found her, a copper, a lovely creature who sliced through the air, parting it before her like butter.
A croon issued from his muzzle and he crouched low, only to see an aqua speed past, the first contender for the female. The scarlet's neck arched, a hiss dripping from between his jaws like poison as he launhed himself from the ground, his wings stroking the air in a downward sweep that lifted him aloft. What was an aqua doing here? What an insult to that lovely copper, for such a minuscule, unimportant creature to be in the same skies as she! He would show that little beast, beat him from the very sky to catch the lovely copper.
With a contemptuous snort he rowed through the air, wings his wings pulling him foward speedily, bringing him close to the aqua and the wonderful scarlet. He did not bugle and bellow and fuss, drawing more attention from the rest around, but rather, drew himself close enough to the scarlet for her to hear the soft croon he directed to her, lusty, passionate. why should he make such noise as the aqua did? Didn't that little fool know his advantage would be in fewer flits joining? Didn't he realize, that considering his size and rank, that the less attention drawn to the flight, the better? Of course the female, the rare little beauty the copper was, would make noise, for it was shewho was to be mated, she who was to be chased afetr and finally caught by only the best. Of course, there was the chance that little runt of an aqua thought himself the best. A laughable concept, one that brought forth a little rumble of bemusement from the scarlet.
Perhaps it was a tamed male, that of course, would explain the reason he was so arrogant. Well, not this firelizard! Oh no, this one was born wild, a fact he was proud of. He was no pet, fart and lazy, accostomed to getting what he pleased by a few mere sounds. No, he was wild! Smart, cunning, and swift, never spoiled, never forgetting what he was, what he could do. He would catch the lovely, beautiful copper, the rare little gem found among a sea of pebbles. A second little croon dripped form his maw, honey-sweet, and then he turned on the aqua with a hiss of warning, his tail lashing at the air with thoughts of simply driving the male from the sky, but no. The copper. Focus on her for now. When the Flight really began, that aqua would undoubably fall behind, would fail in his hopes to catch the copper and be forced to exit the sky, leaving the scarlet unhampered in his conquest of the female.

Really, T'rin should have expected this. As soon as the Copper began to fly he should have expected this. That stupid Onyx of his was a flirt who just so happened to believe that all of the girls in the Weyr were his. Even the dragons! He watched the little Copper soar ahead, her bright hide visible no matter how high up she went. Roy and T'rin had been lounging around rather boredly, Havoc was curled up in the Jaderider's lap, not attacking things for once. Ophith was curled around them, and it almost looked cute. Almost... if T'rin was the cute type. He certainly liked cute things... though he wasn- but enough of that, no one cares about T'rin. This isn't about him.
He groaned as Roy took off after the Copper. Thankfully, Havoc opened one eye, decided he was better off not participating (either that or he couldn't be bothered) and shut his eye again. This cheered up T'rin a little... at least he wouldn't have to deal with the lust of two fire-lizards. He shuddered... T'rin would not be able to take that, he would have to run in the other direction and get as far away from these two as possible. He stroked the Scarlet absentmindedly, trying to ignore Roy's feelings of lust and go back to his nap.
The pale Onyx didn't seem to care if His was watching or not. Or even paying attention. His was bad at flights, anyway. But Roy... Roy was a natural! He'd flown countless females and fathered many clutches. A few of those T'rin had never known about. His huge wings (for a fire-lizard) were stretched as wide as he could get them as he gained altitude after the beautiful Copper in the sky. He noticed two had already started to chase her, an Aqua and a Scarlet. But he didn't care, it was like they didn't exist, they pretty much didn't. They were the lesser ones, he was an Onyx. A king! The Copper beauty deserved him.
He crooned her a "love song", always the show off, adding a little twirl in his flight. The others were no match for a king such as him, and only a king should catch a queen. No, he didn't mean a Silver... he meant a Queen, which the Copper surely was. If Roy actually thought that or if he was just trying to impress her was unknown to anyone, even the flitt himself. He was easily lovestruck... but that didn't mean that he wasn't going to try his hardest and fly his fastest! He twirled again, seeming to be enjoying himself. Roy lived for flights... even if His didn't. The Onyx's eyes were swirling with determination... though mostly with lust. He was NOT going to lose, especially not to a Scarlet or Aqua! They were no match for him, and he was going to show the Copper this. She would realize that he was the best one here, he was sure of it.
ooc: Um, gonna be gone for a week but lol thought I'd add in T'rin's flit anyway. x) You can NPC him flying after Luatyrr or something, I'll pick up the RP when I get back if it's not over. I'd attempt to post from my phone but it would end up pathetically short... xD

The copper fire lizard had stopped her bugling, if only for a moment. She was giving herself time to observe, hovering high above the weyrbowl as she was. She had a good advantage she knew, her height already much superior to any fire lizard that would hear her call. Abruptly she almost froze in her agitated hovering as a shriller call than her own pierced the air, and almost as suddenly, she appeared to skitter two feet to the left of herself in the air. An aqua – Shiro, it must have been him – had appeared unnervingly close to where she had been. Agitation began to set in, and she shook her little head, letting the adrenaline flush through her veins. It was no time to lapse in concentration; she needed to be completely in this. Where would the fun be elsewhere? Shiro bugled again, and a scarlet also appeared, a little ways off. He seemed to be a lot more relaxed than the aqua, almost lazily showing off. Luatyrr snorted, paying little attention to the noise from either of them. They wouldn’t win her with a song.
They seemed reluctant to get much closer to her until she darted, and she contented herself with hovering just on the edge of anxiety for a moment. Let them try to come to her first. Looking over the two candidates thus far, she hissed menacingly. Maybe it would put them off, for all they seemed timid. After all, she was better than they were, better than all of the fire lizards in the entire weyr!! She shrieked at them again as she realised yet another had dared join the throng of suitors. Roy. Now if she had thought the scarlet showoffish, she definitely thought this of the miniature king, spiralling around the way he was. They only managed to make themselves look like prize wherries, attempting to sing to her. Singing indeed!! The thought annoyed her again, as it had before. She needed someone strong, not fancy. Instinct kicked in all the stronger with that feeling of need. She shrieked her defiance at the whole display provided by the males and sent herself soaring higher with a strong, but short flap of her wings. The sun glinted on her glowing hide, little golden toned facets of light that danced around her in the air.
Considering the choice she had, she was fairly amused. Thoughts mulled over in the back of her lust filled mind, half-registering, just enough to help with decision making. Okay, so not many coppers would even consider the tiny little aqua attempting such a brave feat, but in Shiro’s case, she was willing to let him be. After all, he was good company, full of fuzzy warm feelings, although the simplicity of some aqua’s really did annoy her. The wild scarlet was an unknown. He would be strong, most certainly, and maybe more cunning than the other two, but could she count on him to stay afterwards? And Roy, well it was probably an honour that he wanted to try and catch her, she mused, being a king after all, but she knew he’d probably get bored and end up chasing some wild silver eventually. Hah! Some silver could go to the red star!! She was better than any silver, stronger and more beautiful and faster! The copper let her thoughts slip away as she exulted in the feel of the air beneath her wings and the sense of danger lurking just underneath lust. She would let them chase and give them a good run. The winner would stand out to her eventually.
The copper gave up with the ascent after only a short time, knowing exactly how draining it would be on her wings. She bugled again to those behind her, with just an edge of a snarl, daring any of them to follow first – if they were brave enough. She would be ready. She knew how to dodge, to twist out of the way, just at the last second, to wear out any that were too weak. She let a warm current of air fill her wings, keeping her buoyant without the strain of flapping, ready to zoom away at a moments notice. The currents were always helpful, although sometimes too helpful for the competitors. She snarled inwardly, remembering the last time she’d made that mistake. No, not again she decided and tensed her body, poised to propel herself away from the first male to reach her.

The wild firelizard's eyes narrowed, their purple tones flecked with red as an onyx appeared as well. The runt would be no challenge, after all, what sort of clutch would an aqua sire? A weak one, at the very best. No, so far as the clutch was concerned it was the scarlet and the onyx who were betetr choices, though perhaps for a long-term mate the aqua would be better. He would have to outwit all of them, outfly, and outmaneuver that onyx if he wanted his chance, and seeing an onyx join made it a certainty he did.
If the copper was indded so interesting, was indeed desired by even a king, the wild creature was determined he would have her. He might even consider staying near, though the very concept of allowing himself to fall victim to the binds of humanity was refused. No, if by some chance he won, he would not allow himself to become soft and tamed.
As his prize shot upwards, out of reach of them all, he silenced himself, ceasing sound entirely and pumping his pinions, forcing air past him to chase. He would be the first to move, the first to stay on her tail if that was what she wanted!
The beauty seemed to have no interest in songs of sweet nothings, but her sharp eyes had looked each male over with apraisal in them, had thought things over if for only a moment. He body moved with serpintine flow, streaking through the sky, a crimson blur that twisted and curved to bring himself after the wonderful, perfect, copper. He would have her, yes, his thoughts were focused on that one concept, trusting for the moment his instincts to guide him. Trusting that nature would tell him what to do, and only if that failed would he plot and scheme.
Too quickly, the copper stopped, cutting short their heaven-bound climb, and it was almost saddness the scarlet felt at that, though he allowed himself to rise slightly above. Height had proven an advantage time and time again, never failing to offer speed when one needed it, room to dart to and fro, to avoid collision, to see everrything else that played out.
But... For a moment instinct collided with sense. If he made his moves early, if he showed himself better than the other males before they knew it was happening, he could try and end this Flight quickly, could prevent the onyx from getting anywhere near victory, and scoff the foolish aqua for even thinking of joining when a fine, wild male like himself was present.
His wings furled, and he dropped, arching to curve his way to the flank of the copper, brushing against her feather-light, ebough to let her know he was ther,e he was the closest, he was the best, before dropping below her, crossing back and forth, as if guarding the sky around the copper from the others. No, not as if, for that is exactly what he was doing, tyaking up as much air as he could to keep away his competition, trying to block them, put distance between them and the lovely copper. The scarlet was not about to let the onyx near what was, for the moment in his mind, his copper. It was not a personal thing, the claiming of the female, for the scarlet, in his mind, so long as he was nearest, so long as he had the lead and the advantage in a Flight, the female was his until it was over, until he either won orlist, or until his advantage was stolen away.
His wheeling eyes were locked on the other males, his ears listening to the thrum of the copper's wings, hide keeping check of the flow of air that washed over him with each beat from her filmy pinions.
He didn't have to see her, so long as he stayed close, for he could sense where she was, could hear and smell her. That was the important part, and so long as he knew where his copper was at, he had no worry. It was the other males who were the problem, for they would try and sneak past him, try to woo his copper away from him, steal his proze before she was fully won. How he hated the idea, it nearly made him froth at the mouth, made his heart ache and his mind reel. In response to those emotions, trying to rid himself of the faint red flecks that smudged the purple of his lusty eyes, he let a hiss slip past his teeth, falling from his lips and directed at those other males, that aqua and that onyx. The wild scarlet was ready to guard the copper he wanted feircely, was ready to do as nature intended be done and let bredding fall to only the strongest, only the fittest, the best. It was not the first time the scarlet had given chase, not the first time he'd found a female, a lovely beauty, a creature who captured his heatr and brought out the protective, possesive side of him. He had fought before, never serious, never deadly, but none-the-less he had fought to protect his claim and he would likely do so again unless the others slipped past him quickly.
Word Count: 932 Character: Wild Scarlet firelizard Notes: color= A51212; I kinda like this little scarlet. *huggles*He's cute. And much better for my length. *wipes brow*
