Name: Ereldia
Nickname: Rel
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Rank: Wingrider
Family: Father – Keldar, herdsman
Mother – Erai, trader
Younger Brother - Kelai
Birthplace: Paradise River
Physical Appearance:
Rel’s eyes are slightly larger than average, but this makes them all the more expressive. They look like they are brown, but in reality they are actually green. The main colour of her iris is an olivey green colour, but she has a brown star radiating from her pupil which makes them appear brown from more that 2 feet away. Long, dark lashes frame these eyes, presenting an almost sultry appearance, something which she occasionally uses to great advantage. She has a soft face that is greatly complimented by her arched eyebrows and slight sharpness to her chin. Her lips are neither thin nor extremely full, but are just right and have a nice curve at the corners.
Her hair is naturally a dark brown colour, but bleaching from the sun has now left it a middle sort of brown. She likes to dye it, and so the bottom and some streaks further up her hair are almost black. She likes the way it makes her somewhat different in the fact that she hasn’t seen anyone else dye their hair that way. It falls to just under her bust at the back and the front is cut so that it falls just above, giving it an almost layered look. It falls in such a way as to give her a heart shaped face, not obscured by a fringe, or wayward strands of hair. Rel likes to be able to see properly, so she grooms regularly to keep it that way.
Ereldia has naturally pale skin that has tanned to a light golden brown in the Southern sun. She has a rather slim frame, and isn’t exactly muscular, and if it weren’t for her slightly larger than average bust, she might have been described as willowy. Still, weyrlife has had some effect and running along the beach in the mornings means she has strong legs along with a faint hint of abs. She likes wearing clothes made from silks and velvets – when she isn’t on duty – as she likes the feel of the material. In her words, it’s her little piece of luxury instead of buying sweets and jewellery at gathers. The silver choker she always wears reminds her of the weyrmate that she lost. Usually she wears rich colours such as royal purples, dark blues and combines these with silvers. It’s not rare to see her wearing red either.
Although she enjoys wearing clothes that reveal a lot of flesh, she will never show off higher than her belly button – when she was washing Loreleith at a young age, she caught herself on some shallow coral when her dragon’s splashing caused a wave. The scar isn’t exactly visible, not much more than a jagged white line, but Ereldia will always see it as though it as freshly healed – red and raw.
Personality:
Ereldia is fiery in more ways than one; she is known to be a very energetic rider who has a passion for competition. She is always striving to be better than the male riders in her wing, whether it be for stamina, speed or strength; both she and Loreleith push themselves to be the best that they can be. This competitive streak in coupled with a confidence that immediately identifies her to any rider who has heard of her. When set a task, she believes that she can do it better than anyone else, and endeavours to do so.
Her confidence has also granted her the charisma she needs, as she is quite often flirting with one rider or another. Being bisexual, this could mean anyone in the weyr, although she is wary to keep her distance from the girl’s she knows to be straight. The worst thing in the world for her is to have her charm turned full on to find out that it’s going to waste. Ever since her previous weyrmate died, Rel has been trying to lose herself in as many different people as possible, unable to accept the fact that he’s gone. Relationships don’t last any longer than they have to, especially if she feels she or the other person involved is starting to get involved. It doesn’t stop her from being at her most sensual and most passionate during these brief encounters however. She just detaches her emotions, afraid that if she were to get attached to anyone else, they too would be robbed from her before their time, or they would decide that she wasn’t worth it and leave her.
Unfortunately another aspect of her ‘fiery’ personality is that she can be quite hot-headed. If there is something that she doesn’t agree with, or someone has said or done something to aggravate her, she won’t hesitate in lashing out. She will argue her point until everyone either concedes or leave the room, and can remain angry until Loreleith calms her down.
Rel sees herself as completely independent and hates it when people try to get her to share some of her work, or even what’s on her mind. She fiercely hates anyone trying to interfere with her personal life, or even try to give her advice on the matter. From her point of view, it’s none of their business.
History:
Rel was an average child, always getting into scrapes and awkward situation, but no more so than any other kid. Her mother had been a trader, but had left her caravan when her father had decided it was better trade to leave the lesser goods for the more isolated holds. She met her father at Paradise River hold, and they were both constantly slathering their child with numbweed to ease the pain of the latest bruises.
Ever since she was a child, Ereldia has always known that she liked girls, and made the most of the fact. She would pretend to be the boy in dressing up games when the real boys were out fishing with their fathers, and sneak kisses when she could. It caused a bit of a ruckus once, but no serious trouble, which was fortunate for her. When the boys did come back, she would make bets with them as to who could swim the farthest.
It was on one of these swimming expeditions when she came across the dolphin pod. Since then, she would swim out to deeper waters every day to spend time with them, laughing as they swam with her holding on to their fins. After a few years, she knew every one by name, and had even swam as far as Monaco Bay with them to meet one of the other pods. Her favourite was called Afo, with whom she could spend hours to get away from the mediocre chores she’d have to be doing at home.
As a young teen, Ereldia had become notorious as a heart breaker. The holder’s son had even tried to win her affections, only to be accepted for all of two weeks before the girl swanned off with Liey, his sister. Her mother was always making the comment that she’d make a good dragonrider if she carried on with that sort of thing, but unfortunately she’d never make a suitable wife for anyone who had her in mind. This didn’t bother the girl much, as by the age of 15, her view was rather jaded of marriage anyway. She’d seen women die in childbirth and husbands made cuckolds, and had decided it wasn’t for her.
When she was 16, she was invited by a search rider to go to Vyrzen weyr. She stood at four clutches before she Impressed Loreleith at the age of 18, a day she will always describe as the happiest of her entire life. Like any dragonrider, don’t ask about it, or you will get the expected gooey eyed, mushy account of every little detail in that tiny, exquisite moment. The two were pretty inseparable since they bonded, until Loreleith became too big to fit in many buildings.
And also inseparable since the hatching, were Loreleith and Jade Azreth. The clutch siblings often sunned together or swam with each other on days their riders were busy. He became very possessive of her around other dragons, even at such a young age, so very few other males tried to make her acquaintance. And as their dragons grew closer, so too did the riders. Ereldia revelled in K’ai’s company, delighting in his conversation and his equally competitive nature. Even with the dragons too young to rise, it was widely acknowledged through the weyr that they were weyrmates, particularly when they started to share the same weyr.
Things became pretty intense as people noticed the purple was looking a lot brighter than her usual dark hues, and the male riders tried their best to woo her. K’ai became rather aggressive towards the other men, even going so far as to punch one of them, giving him a black eye. Obviously the weyrwoman at the time reprimanded him as any and all of the male riders were free to let their dragon join the chase. When the purple did rise, the choice was both rider and dragons, as Loreleith chose Azreth, Rel choosing her year long sweetheart, K’ai, leaving all of the other riders far behind. Subsequent flights were much the same, and within the next two and a half years, Ereldia fell pregnant.
On a journey between K’ai must have forgotten to dry off properly as when Azreth finally managed to get him back to the weyr, severe symptoms of firehead were already showing. Rel would not leave his side, especially as he relapsed only two days after it appeared he was getting better. Eventually the illness got the better of him and he just gave up the fight. When Azreth jumped between as his rider died, the most anguished cry of them all was Loreleith’s, rivalled only by her rider’s. No one could deny that both were heartbroken, losing the man who truly seemed to be her soul mate at the young age of 22.
After she came out of her depression – which had lasted three weeks, during which she had not eaten properly – she very nearly fell into another as the headwoman sadly told her that she had lost the baby too. Only Loreleith’s gentle presence kept her sane.
When she finally recovered and regained a bit of her former full figure, the first thing she did was find another person’s arms to lie in to try to forget the pain in her heart, the empty hole that her previous weyrmate had filled. Man or woman, she didn’t care, it was practically three or four new people every sevenday that shared her bed. Loreleith tolerated it, but hasn’t risen for the last half year, although she is overdue by several months. Some people are speculating that she may not rise until she has mourned her lost weyrmate, but many believe that her rider’s mindset is stopping her from wanting to rise.
Although Rel still flirts outrageously, she is slowly overcoming her sorrow for losing K’ai. She still goes from person to person, though not quite as frequently as before, maybe holding on to one for a few weeks or so. At present, she lives at the weyr itself rather than going out on searchriding or being a watchrider.
Dragon
Name: Loreleith
Age: 4 Years
Colour: Purple
Rank: Wingrider
Physical Appearance:
Loreleith is a relatively large purple in terms of her length – being just over 33 feet in length, which is close to an average brown, especially when compared to some of the purple dragons that are closer to the size of an average blue. Her conformation is a lot narrower than that of a brown, making her agility closer to that of a green. She has slightly longer than average wings, being almost twice her length rather than the normal 1 and 2/3’s, making them close to 60 feet in length. This aids her stamina in flight as she doesn’t have to flap them as often as other dragons; they allow her to keep a level attitude for longer.
Her hide is a beautiful dark purple hue, close to that of an aubergine. When the sun catches it, the colour is reflected with an almost indigo tint to it, especially closer to her wings. The colour is practically uniform all over her body, excepting the darker, almost black that her underside and muzzle is flecked with. Her wings have a semitransparent membrane that is a dark purple-indigo colour. The bottom edges look ragged and torn, however, they actually grew like that, and if you look closely, there is a faint pattern that can be made out – swirls and circular holes.
Loreleith has a ruffle style ridges from the top of her head, starting between her horns and finishing at the base of her neck. There they form subtler ridges that her rider can comfortably sit between without being dislodged. They continue down her back, until they meet the wing muscle. The rest of her back is smooth from there on, down to the tip of her tail, which has a flamboyant ruffle at the end, to match those on her head. These are the darker, almost black colour dashed through with a lighter, almost indigo colour. The purple’s horns are only about a foot in length, and are more decorative than anything else. They are just shorter than the ruff and are black in colour, as are the claws that end her wing tips and her feet.
Personality:
Loreleith is very compassionate, spending a lot of the time listening to other dragons and occasionally, other people and offering her advice. She is a very caring dragon who tries to look after Rel as best a she can, particularly trying to soothe her after one of her angry rampages. She sees herself as her rider’s grounding energy, able to calm the feisty girl down relatively easily.
Generally a happy dragon, Loreleith doesn’t let much get her down. In fact, it is only usually if her rider is hurting that she is also sad, or if someone has died. She is generally quite a popular dragon too, although this can sometimes get on her nerves. She enjoys being around others when she chooses to, but despite her good nature, can get snappish if anyone invades her personal space. Usually she is nothing but considerate.
The complete opposite of her rider, this purple isn’t very interested in mates. Ever since her only weyrmate, Azreth, betweened, she hasn’t so much as flirted with another dragon. She has risen twice since the incident but she couldn’t even be bothered to play around before hand, getting it over and done with as quickly as she could, and becoming slightly depressed afterwards. Fortunately, each bout only lasts about 2 days before she goes back to normal.
One of her favourite things to do is to swim with the dolphins, as she finds them immense fun, and they are good at finding the itchy places on her belly. Although she loves to play, she also knows that there is a time for work, making her one of the more down to earth purple’s of the weyr.
