Name: T'kah
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Age: 16 Turns
Rank: Weyrling
Family: Adopted mother - Keyala
Adopted sister - Heikala
Birthplace: Unknown, somewhere in the Southern Continent, near to Cove Hold.
Physical Appearance:
Naturally, Tekah’s hair is somewhere between a dark blonde and a mousy brown colour. However, a life in the sun has bleaches it to a sandy blonde colour, streaked through with flashes of almost white blonde. It always grows back his natural colour though, so his roots are always darker than the rest of his hair. Short and messily cut, Tekah’s hair is getting into his eyes almost constantly. If he dries it with a towel, it often ends up looking fluffy and ‘cute’, so he always separates the layers and leaves it to dry naturally. He never lets it grow more than a few inches long, otherwise it irritates his neck, so he is always hacking at it himself - which would explain why it is so messy.
The boy’s skin is a glorious bronze tan, another effect of his days spent in the sun. During the slightly cooler winter, the tan fades a little, but never really disappears. His skin is always at least partially golden brown.
Tekah, although not technically large, is extremely well built. From when he was young he helped the fishermen at Cove Hold, so he has strong muscular arms and a toned, buff body. Within his height, he can sometimes cut quite an imposing figure. Verging on 6’2”, and his foster mother reckoning he’s due for his last growth spurt, Tekah will probably reach 6’4”, maybe a little more.
A bright azure blue, Tekah’s eyes are probably the most striking feature on his face. They are swirled with pale turquoises around his pupil and can appear to be lighter or darker at times, almost as though they change with his mood. Of course, they don’t physically change colour, it mostly depends on how big his pupils are. The rest of his face is soft - almost boyish. He has a very smooth jaw line, and a gently curved nose. His lips are full, making his pout the best weapon in his arsenal to disarm someone. His eyebrows have a high expressive arch to them.
The only thing marring his face is a white scar on the right hand side. It runs horizontally parallel to his eye and is about 2 inches long. This was caused by a rather sharp flitter wing tip, as it had flown too close to him in a panic. He also has a myriad collection of scars across his body - his forearms and back bear scars from a mauling he received at the previous hatching and he has a faded with scar just under his collarbone on the left hand side.
Personality:
Tekah is generally quite a happy person, despite the things from his past that could have meant otherwise. He doesn’t like to dwell on the bad times, but rather, remember the happy times in his life, after all, if you dwell on the past, how can you expect to move on for the future?
He also has an eye for the girls, loving their ‘company’. He also used to have an eye for the boys, but past experiences made him realise that he was definitely not attracted to men, and that it was girls from there on out. Tekah is a big flirt, but not overtly so. He isn’t flamboyant about it, prefer the more subtle ways of wooing the women.Tekah is often described as the ‘strong and silent’ type, because of his looks and the fact that he doesn't like being loud and outrageous to attracta girl's attention.
When he’s in the right sort of company, he will talk until the runner beast come home, except most of the time, he isn't in the right sort of company. Well, until he'd gotten to the Weyr anyway. He enjoys chatting away to a lot of different people, although when there are people around that he doesn't like, a lot of the time he will make a point of not talking to them. Thankfully, there aren't many people he doesn't like, as he gets along with most people. It's just the self obsessed and constantly moaning people that get on his nerves.
If there is something that needs doing, this lad will do it as he’s quite dependable. He loves working in a team to get things done more quickly, and often ends up organising other people so things run more smoothly; he generally knows who doesn’t like who and keeps them as separate in these situations as he can. That said, he also enjoys doing things on his own, it calms him down when he’s been in a mood. Mostly he starts cleaning things up as the order helps him concentrate, or otherwise he’ll sit and make something. Tekah doesn’t like getting angry, and rather than starting fights, this is his way of getting rid of his rage. Be warned though, if someone follows him when he’s in a mood, or interrupts what he’s doing, he can fly off the handle. Luckily, this doesn’t happen often, as he isn’t an angry person.
History:
Tekah was found on the beach one evening at Cove Hold, as the tide began to come in. His squalling attracted the attention of a drudge at the hold, Keyala. He was only a few months old, and Keyala knew that without a mother to look after him, the child would die. She had given birth only a month prior, and though her daughter was healthy and well, the woman had enough milk to spare for both children. So she took the little boy into her heart and into her home, treating him as though he were her own. No one knows how he came to be there, or even who his parents were, but speculation is that they were young and not ready to deal with the trials of parenthood.
Growing up in the hold was easy for Tekah, having no sort of rivalry with the other boys. He wasn’t in the hold often enough for there to be any form of rivalry! More often, he could be found down on the beach, watching the men work and playing hide and seek in the outskirts of the jungle with his adopted sister, Heikala. The two of them got along as any brother and sister could. There wasn’t even a mote of animosity between them. Growing up, they found each others company more enjoyable than that of the other hold children, especially as they were all interested in harpering, and these pair, determined to be different, preferred to explore and get into all sorts of scrapes.
It was during one of these jungle expeditions that he acquired the scar to his collarbone and the few others that are dotted about his legs. The two children were about 8 turns old at the time. They had been playing their usual games of hide and seek, keeping under the shade of the tall trees to escape the sun. Having wandered further into the jungle than they had realised, they came across one of the wild spotted felines known to live there. Luckily it was only young, and clumsy in it’s movements, but even so, it made a dash for Tekah and had him pinned on the floor before either child knew what was happening. Scratching at his neck, the still soft claws only managed to cause two deep wounds, but the scrabbling hind claws of the beast left Tekah with great raking gashes down his legs. Heikala, being very brave for her age, had grabbed a hold of the cat’s tail and pulled until the thing squealed in pain and ran off to find it’s mother.
Managing to hobble back to the hold, Tekah passed out just as his adoptive mother saw him. He woke up the next day to find his legs bandaged and his collarbone patched up as best as it could be, given the awkward place of the injury. He was lucky to not have sustained worse, he was scolded. Admonishments came from several of the hold folk, causing him to become very quiet, and almost reclusive for a while. Or at least, until the worst of his injuries had healed.
After that expedition, he decided that he wanted to help the fishermen he had watched for days when he was younger, and was set to the tedious chore of checking the netting of the boats and skiffs. For a while this amused his well enough, just enjoying the sea breeze, and the feeling of the waves lapping at the boat, but eventually he became bored. He began sneakily fishing with his own line when the other men on the boat were napping, and became quite adept. Everyone was left dazzled by the barrel of fish that miraculously became fuller without anyone doing any work. When he was found out, the men asked him how it was he always made a catch. Simply, he shrugged and told them that he’d seen how the fished shoaled when he went swimming when he was younger.
The years of fishing made his a toughened sea farer, and built his muscle until when he was fifteen, he was almost as built as the men who had been at it all their lives. His enthusiasm slowly dwindled after he found out that there was a new weyr that had been established. He was always the last to hear, and the longing every boy feels to be whisked away by a dragon began to take a hold on him.
At this age, like most lads, he experimented with things. He had an eye for the girls, and was quite often caught by older brothers or parents and told to keep well away. Still, that never stopped him. Also, he had a fancy for one of the prettier lads in the hold. Surprisingly, the boy also had a thing for Tekah, yet things went horribly wrong. When the two met each other down on the beach late at night, Tekah swiftly realised how wrong he knew he’d been when he thought he’d actually fancied this boy, especially when Lyral tried to kiss him! Shocked, he ran off, hurting the poor lads feelings, but not caring too much as he was disgusted. Eventually he came round and apologised to Lyral, but the pair never talked very much from that day.
A few months later, a search rider had come to the hold to find candidates for the previous clutch that had been laid. Hope was probably all the boy knew when the dragon began his search of the area, and it turned into full blown ecstasy when he was summoned by the rider to be taken to Vyrzen Weyr. There he stood at the hatching, four days after he had been chosen as a candidate. But because he hadn’t been present for the touching, a little aqua dragon searching for his Mine, stumbled across him, tripping Tekah at the same time. In his alarm, the little dragonet lashed out and scratched all down Tekah’s arms as he threw them up to protect his face. A little less frightened, the dragonet decided to walk off to find his mine, but obviously didn’t realise that walking over Tekah would scratch him all the more. The boy spent three days after that I his room, upset that he hadn’t Impressed, and covered in numbweed to help dull the pain of his wounds.
Ever since, he has lived at the weyr, and it was at Amath's clutch that he Impressed Kalimanth. He rarely talks about that day to anyone, and now is used to the comments about his bizarre dragon.
Dragon
Name: Kalimanth
Age: Hatchling
Colour: Aqua
Appearance:
Kalimanth is probably one of the stranger dragons to survive his clutch. His conformation gives him the appearance more of a sea serpent than of a dragon, but a dragon he most definitely is. His whole body is longer than the average dragon, and his tail is about two feet longer than usual. This makes him nearly five feet longer in length than most aqua’s, a trait which will grow with him, so he will always be a greater length. This does pose the problem of walking as his legs are rather short, but in time he will get used to it. His wing span is longer and a lot narrower than is normal, probably so it is easier to elevate his vastly distribute weight in flight.
His hide is a glorious sky blue, much like the colour of the sky only found on the clearest of days in the southern climate. This colour is fairly uniform across the hide, with the exception of his underside, ridges and wing membrane. From just underneath his chin, right down to the bottom of his tail is a darker, duskier blue than the rest of his hide. The wing membrane is this darker colour, but is translucent rather than opaque. These are threaded through with a slightly darker blue where the vein under the skin can be seen. The wingtips end in small but sharp claws, the joint at the top of the wing arch is pointed with an elegant narrow claw. All of these and the claws on his feet are a dark navy colour, almost verging on black.
Instead of the horns or ridges sported by many other dragons, Kalimanth has two fin-like protrusions from the side of his head, the same colour as under his belly. These also add to his serpentine appearance. They are supported by three slim bones that form the end of each point in the fin. The fin is hide, but it is much tougher than the rest of his body as it has to withstand any buffeting he may receive, be it from another dragon, wind or water. His ridges are almost soft and wavy, giving the impression of dark blue waves that run from the back of his head, along his neck and down to the bottom of his tail where they meet his tail-fin. The fin at the very tip of his tail is shaped almost like a holly leaf that has grown around the tip and part-way up his tail. The fin has also grown around the tip of his tail, the same colour as those on his head.
Personality:
Much like any aqua, Kali is attention loving and almost constantly happy. This is a joy which not many sorrows of the world can penetrate, because the little aqua will just bounce right back and carry on being his hyper, happy self.
Because he’s so full of energy, T’kah has trouble keeping the dragon in one place for very long, or else he gets bored. All the excess energy doesn’t exactly help with his clumsiness when it comes to getting about though, as he’s usually dashing about like a buck with a dragon after it.
Being a huge chatterbox, Kali will talk to almost every other dragon, rider or even some of the common folk that visit the weyr, obviously not realising that this scares the wits out of most normal people.
He will usually speak without thinking about what it is he’s going to say, and this can land both his rider and himself in some deep trouble, but hey, being in trouble can be fun sometimes too, right? After all, it means he still gets to talk to people, and he can often worm his way out of trouble with his cutesy demeanour.
