Name: Derrok
Age: 15
Rank: Candidate
Family: C'ruk, rider of Brown Jersuth, father. Gerra, rider of Green Pexiath, mother.
Birthplace: Benden Weyr.
Appearance: Derrok is a tall and lanky boy, with limbs like sticks. His sternum caves in ((that's a real medical condition that my brother has)), making him look slightly emaciated. His muscles are naturally prominent, even though he's not very strong. A pale layer of skin sheathes his body, heavily freckled and almost always sunburned. He has long fingers and very large feet. Overall, he's very long, lean, and disproportionate. His feet are huge, making it hard for him to get shoes large enough. Most of the time they're not very good quality, but he doesn't pay much attention and goes barefoot frequently. All his joints are knobbly, which embarrasses him, so he often covers up his legs with longer short breeches or pants. Several scars crisscross his shins from an accident with his mother's firelizard when he was younger.
A shock of wavy black hair covers his head, falling down to his jaw in a wavy cascade. The jaw, shielded by his hair, is soft and gently sloping. Surprisingly full lips purse often in confusion and supercilious scorn. His nose is strong, with a slight bump on the bridge. A pair of startling grey eyes stare out, thickly lashed, with intelligence shining brightly behind them. He has a wisp of a beard, but it's not noticeable unless you get closer to him. His ears are slightly larger than average, and they poke out from his hair, looking almost elfin from a certain angle. Acne pocks his face, especially across his lower cheeks and nose, and his nose is permanently reddened as if with sunburn (which it often actually is).
Personality: Derrok is very intelligent. His memory is excellent, enabling him to remember names with ease. He's rather quiet, though not afraid to open up with friends. A sharp sense of humor and sarcasm populate his mind. Though he's intelligent, Derrok is not very athletic. He can't run very fast, but his coordination is good. Nor is he strong, though his wit more than makes up for it. Derrok is soft-spoken and obedient around the Barracks. He does his chores without complaint - to the face of authority. Behind their backs, he makes jokes frequently with his friends, or to himself. His creativity allows him to come up with the most creative humor of all the Candidates. Several times he has been caught, but he often talks himself out of it - sometimes, though, he's stuck with kitchen chores - his least favorite chore.
Derrok's fairly paranoid - loud noises in the night make him jump, and he hates walking by himself after dark. Also, he sometimes gets obsessive - he'll randomly start ordering pebbles in the sand by size and by color, or other things like that. Not even he really knows why, it's just what he does. Derrok likes music but doesn't sing - his voice is odd, and doesn't sound very good, but he's perfectly content to sit in the audience and bob his head rhythmically - another strange habit of his. Around new people he's fairly friendly and not very shy, making new friends easily.
History: Derrok was born in the Lower Caverns of Benden Weyr. His foster parents raised him lovingly, though they didn't love each other as much as they should. They separated when he was 11, and he was allowed to stay in the Candidate Barracks until he was old enough to stand. He didn't Impress at his first clutch, and so he was chosen to transfer to Vyrzen Weyr. He arrived and waited until a Clutch he could stand at.
Nothing very exciting happened while he was waiting. He Impressed a Scarlet firelizard, but it died a year or so afterwards, which depressed him extremely. He didn't have too many friends, but those he had were close. And every Clutch he stood at, he didn't Impress. That didn't do much to build his hopes of Impressing, and Clutches now make him somewhat sad. He doesn't make much of a to-do about donning the white robe and walking out onto the Sands, only to leave disappointed. He's really jaded about the whole affair.
